The Deer Central Stalker is the result of a collaborative design between Ben Lightowler, Owner of Deer Central and Phil Siddell of Wellington Blade Works.
Key to the design is a blade length and shape versitile for bleeding and gralloching all UK species of deer whilst not being ungainly. A durable, washable, non-permeable handle material. Ergonomic design for comfortable and firm grip in various hand positions. An option for a washable sheath but also traditional leather.
Both perfectionists, Phil and I deliberated over the design for some time before Phil set to work crafting the knife.
Phil is an artisan and not one to cut any corners to save production time. The result from conception to final article is nothing short of a work of art. Although the blade is lengthy at 5.5 inches it has an elegant distal taper that lends it a balance in the hand that aids control. The slender, knife specific, stainless steel blade is finished in a field serviceable hand rubbed 400 grit finish. Each knife is hand ground with full flat bevels to offer the correct balance between edge strength and slicing ability. The 416 grade stainless steel bolsters are both attractive and functional, sealing the handle against moisture ingress as well as giving a balance point that causes the knife to rest in the hand naturally. With an eye to correct hygiene practices, handle scales are offered as either G10 or Micarta composite or a professionally stabilised natural timber; all of which resist the ingress of moisture and are easy to clean. Sheath options are either a hand stitched custom leather belt sheath with dangler loop or a bespoke kydex sheath with a belt clip. These knives are built one at a time to the exacting standards of the modern English custom knife making movement and will be the pride and joy of those who own them. In conjuction with Wellington Blade Works, Deer Central are proud to be able to offer a limited number on commission.
