Deer Stalking Certificate Level 1

The Deer Stalking Certificate 1 (DSC1) is a foundation level course in deer stalking suitable for beginners or those who wish to formalise thier experience in a qualification.

Course Content

Pre course study of the manual is required. On successful completion of the course and it’s assessments you will have a good theoretical knowledge of all aspects of deer stalking including, the law, safety, ballistics, UK deer species, their biology and ecology, humane culling, carcass handling and food hygiene.

Large Game Meat Hygiene

You will be taught and assessed for your Large Game Meat Hygiene Theory Qualification. You will find more information on this part of the course here..

5 Assessments

1. General Question Paper 

50 multiple choice questions – Selected from a cross section of the DSC1 Syllabus. Pass mark 40/50

2. Game Meat Hygiene Question Paper

40 multiple choice questions – Pass Mark 32/40. This forms the theory element of your Large Game Meat Hygiene assessment which is completed with the practical assessment when you progress on to your DSC2.

3. Visual ID Assessment

20 Slides on a powerpoint presentation. You must record the Species and the sex pictured on each. Pass mark 16/20

4. The Safety Assessment

A simulated deer stalk where you will be tested practically/verbally on saftey in different scenarios. Pass Mark 10/10

5. The Shooting Assessment

You will be required to prove a minium standard of marksmanship on a deer target from set distances, in different positions, using deer stalkingshooting aids. For standards please watch our video.
