The Deer Stalking Certificate 1 (DSC1) is a foundation level course in deer stalking. On successful completion of the course and it’s assessments the candidate will have a good theoretical knowledge of all aspects of deer stalking including, the law, safety, ballistics, UK deer species, their biology and ecology, humane culling, carcass handling and food hygiene.
The course culminates with 5 Assessments,
General Question Paper – 50 multiple choice questions – Selected from a cross section of the DSC1 Syllabus. Pass mark 40/50
Food Hygeine Queston Paper – 40 multiple choice questions – Pass Mark 32/40. This forms the theory element of your Large Game Meat Hygiene assessment which is completed with the practical assessment when you progress on to your DSC2.
Visual ID Assessment – 20 Slides on a powerpoint presentation. You must record the Species and the sex pictured on each. Pass mark 16/20
The Safety Assessment – A simulated deer stalk where you will be tested practically/verbally on saftey in different scenarios. Pass Mark 10/10
The Shooting Assessment – You will be required to prove a minium standard of marksmanship on a deer target from set distances, in different positions, using deer stalking shooting aids. For standards please watch our video below.
Pre course study and preparation is required. We offer pre course coaching in readiness for the shooting assessment. We also provide the option of the DSC1 Course manual and links to online study aids which are endorsed by the awarding body ‘Deer Management Qualifications’.
